Scraplift-It: Beautiful (Jenn Gagne)

Hello, Jenn here with my first project for the Crafty Maven Getaway and I am so excited to be here 🙂  For this project I decided to scraplift the amazing Missy Whidden and her Amazing layout!  I just love how this layout turned out, with it’s beautiful mixed media and colours.

I had a Paige Evans cut file that I had cut in the summer, using pattern paper, and I pulled it out to try my hand at recreating Missy’s layout.  I started with the mixed media in the background by mixing some watercolours to match my cutfile, then smooshed them onto my background with a stamp block.  I also used a few spray mists in matching colours to splatter over the watercolours.  I decided my cutfile would look better over to the left of the page, so all of the background colour is on the left of the page.  When it was dry, I used my palette knife to scrape some white acrylic paint over top of the colours to mute them a little bit so they wouldn’t compete with the patterns in my word!

While my background dried, I built up some layers behind my photo.  In true Missy style, I kept my layers subtle, with just a peek of the colour around the edges of the picture.  I didn’t have any tissue paper, like Missy often uses, so I opted for a square doily, which I think suits the picture really well.  When my background was dry, I adhered my cutfile and my photo, then started to build up flower clusters.  I pulled out all the flowers I have from my Pink Paislee Paige Evans collections and mixed them all together to create some fun flower embellishments clusters around the photo and on my cutfile word.  The trick to mixing and matching collections is to make sure you spread out the colours and styles of each collection into every cluster, that way everything looks purposeful and nothing stands out too much.

To finish the layout, I added some Simple Stories tiny word stickers and some thread into my clusters, then splattered some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold.  This layout was so much fun to do.  I really enjoyed channeling my inner Missy Whidden to create this beautiful layout!  Thanks so much for stopping by, and be sure to check out the process video so you can see exactly how this all came together 🙂  Until next time, Happy Scrapping!!!

Free Flow Wednesday: (March 23) Hannah Lemieux

Aloha!! This week is flying by, and I won’t lie I feel so unfocused!! But thank goodness it’s Spring Break, so I suppose a little slacking is required right?!!

Today I am up on The Crafty Maven Getaway. I love when I can just do my own thing, scrapping my style! Let’s face it I love to create my own backgrounds. I love to just play on white card stock and make it beautiful. I find using acrylic paints my favorite way to do transform a background.

Today I used the colors from the mood board to pick out paint that matched. I used my fave blue paint (Studio Calico color theory DeJu Vu acrylic paint), copper (Martha Stewart acrylic paint), and then mixed orange and pink together to make a coral color.  I then just painted blocks of color throughout my page. It’s that simple.

I knew I wanted to cut a cut file, my newest obsession, on top of the painted area. I picked a cut file that made me think of the pattern on the inspiration piece. I love that almost chevron looking pattern. ( I got my cut file from The Cut Shoppe,  you can follow the link to Ashley Horton’s Etsy shop to see what cool files she has.)

I really had fun with patterned paper that matched the inspiration piece, corals and blues. I made pretty big layers, but since I only have one photo I am not worried about space as much.

IMG_5705

To counter balance this I tried to keep my clusters of embellishments on the layers. keeping it all one space helps the layout not look so busy.

I tucked in embellishments that had texture and colors that matched the colors I was already using. This helps keep the layout looking cohesive because I am mixing different companies products together.

I love all the texture from this cluster!!

I made my title fairly small because I really wanted it to fit above the photo within the layers. I didn’t want to cover up the cut file at the top. I really was trying to not go crazy all over the layout. It was really hard. Sometimes we just have to go crazy and let go!

Sketch It Out Thursday: (Feb 4) Melissa Vining

Aloha Crafters!! Today Is Sketch It Out Thursday! Whether you love sketches or loathe them, It is always fun to see the transformation from what is on a sheet of paper come to life on a scrapbooking page.

Today Melissa Vining is making a page on The Crafty Maven Getaway. She is using a sketch by Laura Whitaker. It is a take on a grid design.

“For Sketch it Up Thursday (4th). I was inspired by the colours in the moodboard, and immediately thought of Pink Paislee “Cedar Lane”. I’ve used my November Clique Kit. I love Laura Whitaker’s sketches, and loved the patchwork look of this one to be able to feature beautful papers – my most favorite product!!! This is my last layout, I’ve had an absolute blessed time being here, will miss you all, and am looking forward to being inspired by the new DT. See you all in Youtube and Social media land. I post a lot on Instagram, so come and follow me there! Huge thanks and hugs to Hannah Lemieux for this amazing opportunity here xxx” ~Melissa

Free Flow Wednesday: (Jan. 6) Crafty Meggy and Tanya Hubbard

Aloha Crafty Mavens!! We have reached hump day and this week I trying to get my earrings back after a very nice holiday season. Back to school, back to normal chores and routines and back to work!! Thank Goodness for all the inspiration on The Crafty Maven Getaway Channel to help me not lose my mind from all that needs to be done around me!!

Today on The Crafty Maven Getaway Tanya Hubbard created an awesome layout. It mights me want to go to the beach or go sit in the sun.

“Firstly I do apologise for not using the inspiration piece but as I mention in my video – we’re right in the middle of a very hot summer and I just didn’t have any wintery type photos to scrap; so I went with a project I’m working on which is scrapping some photos of a trip my kids took to Mauritius with my family. Some mixed media goodness in the background and layering of embellishments around the photo finish it off. I really like how my background turned out; I feel the yellow paper on the left offsets the whole thing nicely,” Tanya explains.

Here are some pictures of her layout.

Also posting to the Crafty Maven Getaway is Crafty Meggy. I really like Megan’s classic style layout. The design is really nice and simple, but it really helps the patterns on the paper stand out. Here is what Megan says about her layout.

“For this layout I was really inspired by the pure white in a couple of the mood board pieces. Some close friends of ours were sealed together as a family recently and this photo of them all in white just stood out to me as I searched for a photo to fit the inspiration piece. I kept the layout simple because I wanted the focus to be on them and the wonderful event that took place that day in their lives.”

Here are some photos of her layout.

In Your Pocket Tuesday: Scifi Scrapper

Aloha Crafty Mavens!! Happy Tuesday!

Today on The Crafty Maven Getaway Scifi Scrapper is sharing with us something a little different. She is sharing a pocket letter she made. A little background, I really got to know Emma when we swapped pocket letters earlier this year. It was was really fun to share bits and pieces of scrappy goodness but also get to know the sender through their style and what they share in the pockets and letter.

I love what Emma did in this pocket letter. I love all the geometric patterns mixed with the flowers and doily. This mix of fun and girlie, hip and pretty makes a great combo. Emma mentioned how this was difficult to make, but I love how you can’t even tell by looking at the end result. I think it is a good reminder that there are many times when we struggle getting our intentions (crafty intentions) on the page, but sometimes it’s the struggle that brings this great beauty. It’s where we learn the most. But the most of all in the end others looking at our pages and projects don’t see the struggle, they see the beauty of the page. Sometimes giving ourselves that small break helps the process.

Here is a few looks at Emma’s pocket letter.

Thanks for joining us today!! I hope you are inspired to let go, let go of being perfect and let the joy you feel about your photos, your products and your memories flow to the page. That is what this craft is really about!!

See you back tomorrow crafters!!
