🦋 Design Team Inspiration: Layered Butterfly Wings with Fabric & Paper Strips

Hello Scrapbookers!!! Crafty Meggy here with another stunning design team project to share with you.

Today’s inspiration is such a creative and eye-catching layout featuring a beautiful butterfly design full of texture and dimension! You can watch the process video here.

Our design team member, Kristin, used a cut file from Paige Evans as the base of her layout and brought it to life in the most amazing way. Since this month’s Facebook challenge is all about using ink, she added ink around the cut file to help define the shape and make it stand out against the background. She also used the Scavenger hunt challenge from Facebook as well.

From there, she began building the wings by layering strips of fabric and paper from the kit, along with some pieces from her own stash. She glued each strip down around the butterfly body, creating large, dimensional wings that are full of movement and texture.

The result is a bold and beautiful focal point that really makes this layout stand out!

She placed her photo slightly off-center on the left side of the page, which balances the large butterfly design perfectly. To finish it off, she added florals, butterflies, and a gorgeous purple acrylic title that says “hello gorgeous,” tying everything together beautifully.

✨ Why This Project Inspires

• Cut file base: Creates a strong focal design
• Inked edges: Adds definition and depth
• Fabric & paper strips: Build amazing texture and dimension
• Layered wings: Eye-catching and full of movement
• Thoughtful embellishing: Completes the design beautifully

I love how this layout combines so many elements—fabric, paper, ink, and embellishments—into one cohesive and stunning design. It’s such a fun and creative take on using a cut file!

🎨 Try This Technique

If you want to recreate this look, start with a cut file shape and add ink around the edges to make it pop.

Then layer strips of paper and fabric to fill in the design, building dimension as you go. Finish with embellishments and a title to complete your layout.
