🌸 Design Team Inspiration: Florals & Colorful Mixed Media Layers

Hello Scrapbookers!!! Crafty Meggy here with another gorgeous design team project to share with you.

Today’s inspiration is a bold and colorful mixed media layout created for one of our National Scrapbooking Day challenges—and it is absolutely full of energy, texture, and beautiful floral details!

For this layout, Cassie took on the floral challenge and created a vibrant background packed with layers of colorful mixed media. She used a large cut file that was released for NSD as the focal design element, building an eye-catching foundation for the rest of the page.

She centered her photo in the middle of the page and surrounded it with gorgeous floral clusters that really pop against the mixed media background. The florals help soften the bold design while also tying all the colors together beautifully.

The combination of the large cut file, layered mixed media, and dimensional florals creates such a striking layout that perfectly captures the fun and creativity of National Scrapbooking Day.

Why This Project Inspires

• Large cut file: Creates a bold focal design
• Colorful mixed media background: Adds movement and energy
• Centered photo placement: Keeps the layout balanced
• Floral clusters: Add softness and dimension
• Layered details: Bring everything together beautifully

I love how this layout embraces bold color and heavy mixed media while still keeping the photo and florals as the main focus. It’s such a fun and inspiring take on the NSD floral challenge!

🎨 Try This Technique

If you want to recreate this look, start with a large cut file as your base design.

Build layers of mixed media behind it using bright colors and different textures to create depth and movement. Then place your photo near the center of the layout and surround it with floral clusters to help it stand out against the busy background.

🪴 Design Team Inspiration: Floral Layers & Photo Focus with Mixed Media Touches

Hello Scrapbookers!!! Crafty Meggy here with another beautiful design team project to share with you.

Today’s inspiration is a soft and stunning layout featuring gorgeous floral paper, layered details, and a beautiful focus on photography that really tells a story.

Our design team member, Miranda, used a gorgeous floral patterned paper as the foundation for her layout and built her design around three photos of her backyard oasis. Her goal was to let the photos shine while still incorporating mixed media elements—and she absolutely accomplished that! Watch the video HERE.

She began by she added soft layering using patterned papers and subtle mixed media touches. The florals in the background helped enhance the natural, peaceful feel of the backyard photos without overpowering them.

From there, she carefully placed her photos in a way that kept them as the main focal point of the page. The arrangement allows each image to stand out while still feeling cohesive as a group.

Instead of heavy mixed media coverage, she kept everything balanced and intentional—using texture and layering to support the design rather than compete with it. This creates such a calm and visually pleasing layout that really draws your eye to the story being told in the photos.

She finished the page with thoughtful floral embellishments that tie everything together and enhance the overall garden-inspired theme.

Why This Project Inspires

• Floral patterned paper: Creates a soft, cohesive background
• Photo-focused design: Keeps the story at the center
• Balanced layering: Adds interest without overwhelming the page
• Subtle mixed media touches: Enhances texture and depth
• Clean composition: Lets the photos truly shine

I love how this layout proves that mixed media doesn’t always have to be bold or heavy—it can be soft, subtle, and used in a way that enhances your photos beautifully.

🎨 Try This Technique

If you want to recreate this look, start with a patterned paper that complements your photos.

Place your photos first so they remain the focal point, then build light layers around them using coordinating papers and embellishments.

🦋 Design Team Inspiration: Layered Butterfly Wings with Fabric & Paper Strips

Hello Scrapbookers!!! Crafty Meggy here with another stunning design team project to share with you.

Today’s inspiration is such a creative and eye-catching layout featuring a beautiful butterfly design full of texture and dimension! You can watch the process video here.

Our design team member, Kristin, used a cut file from Paige Evans as the base of her layout and brought it to life in the most amazing way. Since this month’s Facebook challenge is all about using ink, she added ink around the cut file to help define the shape and make it stand out against the background. She also used the Scavenger hunt challenge from Facebook as well.

From there, she began building the wings by layering strips of fabric and paper from the kit, along with some pieces from her own stash. She glued each strip down around the butterfly body, creating large, dimensional wings that are full of movement and texture.

The result is a bold and beautiful focal point that really makes this layout stand out!

She placed her photo slightly off-center on the left side of the page, which balances the large butterfly design perfectly. To finish it off, she added florals, butterflies, and a gorgeous purple acrylic title that says “hello gorgeous,” tying everything together beautifully.

✨ Why This Project Inspires

• Cut file base: Creates a strong focal design
• Inked edges: Adds definition and depth
• Fabric & paper strips: Build amazing texture and dimension
• Layered wings: Eye-catching and full of movement
• Thoughtful embellishing: Completes the design beautifully

I love how this layout combines so many elements—fabric, paper, ink, and embellishments—into one cohesive and stunning design. It’s such a fun and creative take on using a cut file!

🎨 Try This Technique

If you want to recreate this look, start with a cut file shape and add ink around the edges to make it pop.

Then layer strips of paper and fabric to fill in the design, building dimension as you go. Finish with embellishments and a title to complete your layout.

She created her background using mixed media techniques, layering color and texture to give the card a soft but artistic feel. The subtle blending and splatter details add just the right amount of interest without overwhelming the design.

She then built up a layered focal point in the center using pieces from the kit, including florals, labels, and those adorable cactus elements. The combination creates a fun desert-inspired vibe with lots of personality.
