Kit It Up: Crystal Barrett

Hello! It’s Crystal and I am up to day sharing how I make a page kit. There are so many ways to start. What is inspiring you? There are so many things:

  • You could start with a photo.
  • You could start with a beautiful piece of paper that you have been hoarding.
  • You could start with an embellishment.
  • You could start with another layout that you might want to scraplift.
  • You could start with an inspiration piece. This is what I did. I looked at the mood board for February. My eye was immediately drawn to to the floral wreath.CMG feb2

With my inspiration in mind I went to paper. The paper that I chose was American Crafts Vicki Boutin Field Notes Choose to shine. This is the only paper that I have from this collection and to be honest I have been hoarding it. With the inspiration of the mood board I knew that it was time.

Next to find the perfect picture. I went through what pictures that I had on hand and found this cute picture of my daughter from Halloween when she was a butterfly. It is not the best quality picture. Honestly I can’t remember the last time I got good Halloween pictures. The colors in her wings I felt went really well.

Then it is time for picking out embellishments. I think that this is my favorite part because I get to look through all of the pretty stuff I buy. I decide that this layout is going to be monochromatic. So my plan is to pull out items that are black, white, and orange. I always pull out a little too much but that is okay. It will save time going back and looking for something else.

I would love to know how you make page kits. Where do you start?

I have a process video as well over on the Crafty Maven Getaway YouTube channel.

Remember to wear your crown!
