Design Team Inspiration: Mixed Media Card with Layered Details

Hello Scrapbookers!!! Crafty Meggy here with another fun design team project to share with you.

Today’s inspiration is by Jessica. She created an adorable handmade card featuring a beautiful mixed media background and some of the cutest elements!! Watch the process video here.

She created her background using mixed media techniques, layering color and texture to give the card a soft but artistic feel. The subtle blending and splatter details add just the right amount of interest without overwhelming the design.

She then built up a layered focal point in the center using pieces from the kit, including florals, labels, and those adorable cactus elements. The combination creates a fun desert-inspired vibe with lots of personality.

The added textures—like the layered papers and dimensional embellishments—really bring this card to life and make it feel extra special.

✨ Why This Project Inspires

• Mixed media background: Adds soft color and texture
• Layered elements: Create depth on a smaller canvas
• Dimensional details: Bring the card to life

I love how this card balances a creative background with a structured focal point. It’s a perfect example of how mixed media can be used even on smaller projects like cards.

🎨 Try This Technique

If you want to recreate this look, start with a light mixed media background—use inks, sprays, or paint to build soft layers.

Then create a focal cluster using ephemera and embellishments, layering pieces to add depth and interest.

💬 Do you like using mixed media on cards, or do you usually keep them clean and simple? Let me know in the comments!
