Art Party: Canvas (Crystal Barrett)

Hello! It’s Crystal with Pineapple Papers and I am up today on the Crafty Maven Getaway YouTube Channel with something a little bit different. I have been cleaning and organizing my craft room all week. I ran across this canvas from Crate Paper. I got it on clearance for $2.99 at Ross of all places. It has been sitting in my stash for probably a year. It was time to either make it or pass it on.

So I am going to play with it today. The letters are gold and designed to resist any media. It says watercolor but I am going to use distress oxide instead. I am using the packaging technique with colors: Abandoned Coral and Peacock Feathers. I did use my heat gun to dry in between colors.cmg9.jpg

I topped it off with some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold. Once everything was dry I added sprinkles of water to let the oxide do its thing!

I finished the canvas off with just some left over bits and bobs hanging out on my desk. I really love how it turned out. It will be a great addition to my crafty space.

You Are Enough – Art Journal Page

Hello fellow Crafty Mavens,

You can watch the full process video of this page coming together here

I had so much fun with this months inspiration piece. I totally love the purple, red and blue tones!! I also manged to included some yellow and stamped/drew some circular elements too.

CMG Feb

To start with I took my Distress Oxide inks and smooshed three colours onto my pre- gessoed page. I didn’t want the whole page covered in colour so I love how the wrinkles in the paper prevented the ink colouring the page where the dips occurred.

yar1

Once I had my background sorted I flipped through a Daphne’s Diary magazine to find a page with colours I thought would work well as leaves/branches. I grabbed a die from my stash and cut a whole stack out. I wanted these to represent leaf litter on a forest floor.

yae2

I think I cut the girls from a old Frankie magazine sometime ago and had them in my stash just waiting for the right page to come along. I placed the figures on the leaves holding hands as if standing strong together.

I finished with lots of outlining, shading and white highlights to add details.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope you pop on over to watch the process video.

Scraplift It: Crystal Barrett

Hello!!! It is Crystal and I am up today on the hunt for some inspiration. Whenever I want to scrap but I don’t have a vision or sometimes I feel that my mojo is a little lacking or even feel overwhelmed by my stuff and am not sure where to start. I head to the computer or my phone.  There are so many places online to get inspiration. YouTube, FaceBook, Blogs, Scrapbook Company websites. But to be honest my favorite is Pinterest. I think that sometimes I am just a professional Pinner. I pin things because I love them and think they are beautiful. So why not Scraplift the beauty that is Pinned.

That is exactly what I am doing today. I found this layout made by Vicki Parker who is on the Hip Kit Club Design Team. I love the paper layers and the florals under the photo. It felt like the perfect layout for one of my Mexico photos.

CMG feb7

With this inspiration I was off to find my products. I chose papers from the Crate Paper Wild Heart Collection. I did want to do some mixed media in the background as well. I chose some Shimmerz products (Jilted Jade and Moulin Rouge). I used the simple technique of packaging and splatters. I was impatient so I did you my heat gun to dry it before continuing.cmg-feb6-e1549336415896.jpg

Originally I wasn’t going to tear the paper on the top and bottom but my bestie Amber reminded me that is what gives it extra texture and dimension. So tearing I did. I loved the florals around the photo but since we were in Mexico I decided to embrace the leaves.

I would love to see your take on this scraplift.

Good To be Unique – Art party

Hello one and all,

I do enjoy playing in my art journal for my Crafty Maven Getaway posts. I always find something in the inspiration piece to get me going.

you can watch the process video here

This moth it was the colours, the paint swatches and the painting that looked like confetti .fb_img_1545573489684

I started off by add the soft yellows, greens and pinks layers to the back ground using Gelatos.

During this stage I noticed a shape that looked like a tree truck, so I went with it. I used torn strips of paper as they reminded me of the paint swatches.

Once I relised there was going to be a tree on the page I knew the leaves would be small hearts made to look like confetti.

All in all I love how this page turned out.

As always thank you for reading. – Cynthia x

Art Party: Awesome Choice (Crystal Barrett)

Hello I have a super fun and fast layout for you today. It is time to get messy, ok not really I used a pallet knife.  I used the inspiration piece with 2 of the pictures.

fb_img_1545573489684

The Paint stripes were the first thing. I did Paint stripes on this Mexico 8 1/2 x 11 layout. I am a big fan of Art Anthrology’s paints. I used 4 colors: Patina Seafoam Stone Effects, Patina Teal Velvet, Metal Effects Gold, Sorbet Coral. They provided not only color but different textures and bling to the page. To add an additional element I splattered the following mists: Tattered Angels Frozen lake, Heidi Swapp (gold, patina and salmon).

I am using white cardstock from Joanns and it is so thick. It doesn’t buckle. I will warn you that if you are using this cardstock to cut cutfiles on a cricut that you need to put it on the poster board setting.

The next thing that I pulled from the inspiration piece is the section that looks like folded paper. I use 4 pieces of paper. I folded them in half and stapled ends together. Layered and glued them under my photo. This photo is of Harry’s (amazing restaurant we ate at in Mexico) This is how you order your steak. Crazy!!!20190103_151907

There is minimal embellishing because I didn’t want to detract from the paint. I decided the best thing would be color blocking with the embellishments. The embellishments that I chose were some puffy stickers from Paper House Production and stickers from Pink Paislee’s Summer lights.

Scraplifting Missy

Hi all!  It’s Tuesdae here with a Scraplift It!  I am excited to share this with you today because Missy is one of my favorite scrapbookers and I just couldn’t wait to find one of her yummy layouts and scraplift it to inspire you!

Recently, I viewed one of Missy Whiddens Youtube videos for the Hip Kit Club and knew it would be perfect to re-create.  I started with mixed media, of course.  A bit of Shimmerz Paints sprays and some new Cosmic Shimmers I thought would make a good background.   I kept the colors bright and colorful, just like Missys.

IMG_20181120_153606

I tried to follow her layout as close as possible, but of course had to put a little touch of my aesthetic on the page as well.  I can’t ever seem to not follow the rules!  Basically, I arranged the papers in a grid style and sewed them down to the background.  In hindsight I should have just sewn the edges to each piece and then stuck them down on the page because I wanted to stamp and tuck ephemera under the papers. IMG_20181120_153603

I did use a stamp set from Cheeky Studio and some Hero Art Ink and Distress Oxide ink to go around the grid formation.  I used clear gesso on the background so it didn’t stamp perfect, but that’s okay.  Messy is best!  I also pulled some ephemera from my stash, an older set called Love & Adore from Simple Stories to embellish with lots of flowers in clusters around the page.  If you watch me on Youtube you know I LOVE flowers!

IMG_20181120_153610_1

I finished with a couple of labels and made my title from Crate Paper Oasis collection.  Sprinkles of Shimmerz Paint in Don’t Rain on my Parade” added the contrast to finalize.  I think it turned out lovely.  I encourage you to find inspiration from others and scraplift, use sketches, find mood boards and participate in challenges.  You just may find a whole new style you like.  CYMERA_20181120_153835

Happy Scrapping!

Tues

XOXO

Let’s Focus on Stamps!

Our focus at the Crafty Maven Getaways this month is stamps!

Tuesdae here for the design team!  I thought I would pull out stamps from Cheeky Studio and Heidi Swapp and used black Archival Ink to stamp on Close to my Heart smooth 12×12 white cardstock.  It stamped beautifully.  I thought if I stamped solid black images and outlined images that would yield a good balance on my layout and allow me to add color to the outlined images so I could control colors. CYMERA_20181106_162611

IMG_20181105_231431

IMG_20181105_231418

Previous to stamping I did prepare another 12×12 white cardstock with gesso and allowed it to dry.  I wanted to get messy with some Shimmerz Paints!  Once dry, I used the packaging technique to apply 3 colors of Vibez in Princess, Pop Art Pink and Glorious Day.  I did not use those colors for the painting of the stamped images.  For that I used Artist Loft watercolors.  I like the mix of shimmery ink and chalky watercolor to add depth of color.

I trimmed down the background cardstock and gutted a piece of 12×12 Cheeky Studio Autumn Beauty #8 paper and used it behind the white cardstock to create a frame.  I also grabbed some scrap papers from my scrap bin and backed my two photos, then, proceeded to add my stamped images in three clusters around the photos and paint on them as I stuck them down.

IMG_20181105_231421IMG_20181105_231425IMG_20181105_231429

I finished up with a label from Cheeky Studio’s November kit exclusive cut aparts from the Autumn Beauty collection and some cork embellishments and ephemera from that same kit.  A few splashes on additional paint around the page tied everything together to look cohesive.   I think the final layout turned out beautiful!  You can see the Youtube Scrapbook Process video on the Crafty Maven Getaway Channel  HERE

Scraplift-It: Beautiful (Jenn Gagne)

Hello, Jenn here with my first project for the Crafty Maven Getaway and I am so excited to be here 🙂  For this project I decided to scraplift the amazing Missy Whidden and her Amazing layout!  I just love how this layout turned out, with it’s beautiful mixed media and colours.

Screenshot_20181104-172240_Instagram

I had a Paige Evans cut file that I had cut in the summer, using pattern paper, and I pulled it out to try my hand at recreating Missy’s layout.  I started with the mixed media in the background by mixing some watercolours to match my cutfile, then smooshed them onto my background with a stamp block.  I also used a few spray mists in matching colours to splatter over the watercolours.  I decided my cutfile would look better over to the left of the page, so all of the background colour is on the left of the page.  When it was dry, I used my palette knife to scrape some white acrylic paint over top of the colours to mute them a little bit so they wouldn’t compete with the patterns in my word!

While my background dried, I built up some layers behind my photo.  In true Missy style, I kept my layers subtle, with just a peek of the colour around the edges of the picture.  I didn’t have any tissue paper, like Missy often uses, so I opted for a square doily, which I think suits the picture really well.  When my background was dry, I adhered my cutfile and my photo, then started to build up flower clusters.  I pulled out all the flowers I have from my Pink Paislee Paige Evans collections and mixed them all together to create some fun flower embellishments clusters around the photo and on my cutfile word.  The trick to mixing and matching collections is to make sure you spread out the colours and styles of each collection into every cluster, that way everything looks purposeful and nothing stands out too much.

20181104_154419

To finish the layout, I added some Simple Stories tiny word stickers and some thread into my clusters, then splattered some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold.  This layout was so much fun to do.  I really enjoyed channeling my inner Missy Whidden to create this beautiful layout!  Thanks so much for stopping by, and be sure to check out the process video so you can see exactly how this all came together 🙂  Until next time, Happy Scrapping!!!

Everything Connects

Hello all,

I love playing in my art journal so when this months theme was to use a cut file along with the  inspiration piece I knew I would have fun.

42087766_872285741898_879243212093390848_n

I don’t have a machine that cuts file but I do receive one each month as a part of the kit I received from The Wild Hare Kits so I grabbed my October file and set to work.

My first thoughts when I saw the file was science and green!! I then looked at the inspiration piece to see how I could make it work. I was pleased to see reds, oranges and yellows, which I knew would be good contrasting colours for green.

I started by added modeling paste through a stencil that would complemented the cut file I planned to use. Then using a number of sprays and gelatos in red, orange and yellow to created the background colour.

ec 5

I then used the cut file as a stencil and added more modeling paste through it. However this time I tinted the paste with some green spray, but I felt the green wasn’t vibrant enough so I sprayed directly on top of the modeling pastes which made the green really pop.

ec 2

I also added some of the file it self which keeps the same shape but at the same time create a visual interest.

ec 1

I finished off by adding some white highlights and shading to my hexagons and adding a simple quote.

Stash It Monday – Sidney

Happy Monday.  Hope you are doing well.  Today I am digging way, way back into my paper stash.  All of the papers I used today have to be at least 2-3 years old and I think at least one of them is around 10 years old (by the way, where has the time gone??).

Here is what the overall layout looks like.

IMG_0217

For the background I used a smooth cardstock and primed it with Dina Wakley gesso.  I used some Mr. Huey’s and Heidi Swapp Color Shine.  Most of the color was put down with the packaging technique.  I added a few black splatters to top it off.IMG_0218The chipboard came from a My Mind’s Eye 12×12 chipboard sheet.  I really like the colors and the paper I used for the layers went well.IMG_0219I added a bit of journaling and my title and the layout is done.  IMG_0220

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Make sure you check out the Facebook page and Instagram for more inspiration.

Have a great day.
