New Changes, New Looks, Same Feel

Aloha My Crafty Mavens!! I just wanted to come here and talk a bit about the changes that you will notice over the next few months! After a quite long much needed break The Crafty Maven Getaway is back. Just not in the way you are used too. After me, Hannah, started this year I realized I missed some things about our community. I missed all my friends who helped me build The Crafty Maven but I also missed sharing inspiration the way we used to when the Channel was running like a well oiled machine. I had a thought, what if The Crafty Maven Getaway could be more, what if I could do more to inspire my friends, my community, my industry but in a newer way. I jogged my mind and remembered all I left behind and then then I started dreaming about what I could do here. So I started planning!! I started talking my scrappy bestie and things started to become clearer.

I turned The Crafty Maven Getaway into a business. With this change I have the room to help this channel to grow in ways it couldn’t before. With this change I do want to assure you, I still plan on sharing and have available to you lots of free content too. I don’t want to lose the roots and the feel of what had been built over these last 10 years.

Here are some things that have changed:

  1. I am adding a weekly podcast with Crafty Meggy. Each Saturday we talk about something scrappy or crafty. This episodes can be found on the YouTube Channel. There will be show notes here in the the podcast area. All the topics and questions we discuss will be found there. You can continue the conversation in our facebook community group.

2. For The Love Of Homemade Kits is starting back up again. Each month I will release an inspiration piece (this is one element from the past I want to keep to help inspire you with a focus) and a recipe. The recipe will have a list a patterned paper styles, embellishment types, alphas and one focused mixed media products. With this recipe you can create a monthly stash kit to use on your projects to help use your stash. Crafty Meggy and I will share our monthly stash kits on the Youtube Channel. Throughout the month we will share our layouts with you. We hope you will play along and share it in our Facebook Community Group. If you use our recipe use the #fortheloveofhomemadekits so we can see what you create too. Each Month I will highlight and share layouts and kits I have seen online on the blog, so you can be inspired to use your stash.

3. Starting in February, there will be exclusive digital products and a sequin mix (inspired by the monthly inspiration piece) in our online Store. the goal right now is to offer 6 4X6 cards and 4 3X4 cards and an 8 X11 sheet with elements that can be printed and fussy cut or to be made into stickers. All these items can be used on your scrapbooking, mixed media and art projects. They are designed to lean more toward mixed media scrapbooking in mind. Also above will be some exclusive digital sticker sheets designed by my daughter Cayden. Each month I will design and sell an exclusive sequin mix that also can pair with the digital products and the inspiration piece for the month.

The goal is to have the storefront all ready on 2/13-2/14. Be on the look out for more details as we near that date. I will be updating you as we get closer. As we speak I am getting the Storefront all ready for you.

4. I will also be adding my old classes on the store/website. I have two classes that I have created over the years. One classes is an autumn themed mini album. I made this class during my time with Clique Kits Design Team. The second class I am offering is a Watercolor Scrapbooking Background Class. It is the basics to using watercolors to create a background to use while scrapbooking. I created this in 2020 and am excited to release it again on this platform. Also Later in the spring, Crafty Meggy will be sharing and refreshing a sketch class she designed for her patreon.

5. In the future-possibly April/May we have a big bit of news to share. When We get closer to that time I will explain more. I am so excited to share when we are ready.

For today that is all the updates!! I hope you are inspired by all these changes and excited to see everything come together. I know I am, I can’t wait to see what you create with all the new inspiration we are sharing here at The Crafty Maven Getaway.

Later this week I will be sharing more about the February Inspiration Piece and For the Love Of Homemade kits recipe. See you then!!

Art Party: Canvas (Crystal Barrett)

Hello! It’s Crystal with Pineapple Papers and I am up today on the Crafty Maven Getaway YouTube Channel with something a little bit different. I have been cleaning and organizing my craft room all week. I ran across this canvas from Crate Paper. I got it on clearance for $2.99 at Ross of all places. It has been sitting in my stash for probably a year. It was time to either make it or pass it on.

So I am going to play with it today. The letters are gold and designed to resist any media. It says watercolor but I am going to use distress oxide instead. I am using the packaging technique with colors: Abandoned Coral and Peacock Feathers. I did use my heat gun to dry in between colors.cmg9.jpg

I topped it off with some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold. Once everything was dry I added sprinkles of water to let the oxide do its thing!

I finished the canvas off with just some left over bits and bobs hanging out on my desk. I really love how it turned out. It will be a great addition to my crafty space.

You Are Enough – Art Journal Page

Hello fellow Crafty Mavens,

You can watch the full process video of this page coming together here

I had so much fun with this months inspiration piece. I totally love the purple, red and blue tones!! I also manged to included some yellow and stamped/drew some circular elements too.

CMG Feb

To start with I took my Distress Oxide inks and smooshed three colours onto my pre- gessoed page. I didn’t want the whole page covered in colour so I love how the wrinkles in the paper prevented the ink colouring the page where the dips occurred.

Once I had my background sorted I flipped through a Daphne’s Diary magazine to find a page with colours I thought would work well as leaves/branches. I grabbed a die from my stash and cut a whole stack out. I wanted these to represent leaf litter on a forest floor.

I think I cut the girls from a old Frankie magazine sometime ago and had them in my stash just waiting for the right page to come along. I placed the figures on the leaves holding hands as if standing strong together.

I finished with lots of outlining, shading and white highlights to add details.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope you pop on over to watch the process video.

Good To be Unique – Art party

Hello one and all,

I do enjoy playing in my art journal for my Crafty Maven Getaway posts. I always find something in the inspiration piece to get me going.

you can watch the process video here

This moth it was the colours, the paint swatches and the painting that looked like confetti .fb_img_1545573489684

I started off by add the soft yellows, greens and pinks layers to the back ground using Gelatos.

During this stage I noticed a shape that looked like a tree truck, so I went with it. I used torn strips of paper as they reminded me of the paint swatches.

Once I relised there was going to be a tree on the page I knew the leaves would be small hearts made to look like confetti.

All in all I love how this page turned out.

As always thank you for reading. – Cynthia x

Art Party: Awesome Choice (Crystal Barrett)

Hello I have a super fun and fast layout for you today. It is time to get messy, ok not really I used a pallet knife.  I used the inspiration piece with 2 of the pictures.

fb_img_1545573489684

The Paint stripes were the first thing. I did Paint stripes on this Mexico 8 1/2 x 11 layout. I am a big fan of Art Anthrology’s paints. I used 4 colors: Patina Seafoam Stone Effects, Patina Teal Velvet, Metal Effects Gold, Sorbet Coral. They provided not only color but different textures and bling to the page. To add an additional element I splattered the following mists: Tattered Angels Frozen lake, Heidi Swapp (gold, patina and salmon).

I am using white cardstock from Joanns and it is so thick. It doesn’t buckle. I will warn you that if you are using this cardstock to cut cutfiles on a cricut that you need to put it on the poster board setting.

The next thing that I pulled from the inspiration piece is the section that looks like folded paper. I use 4 pieces of paper. I folded them in half and stapled ends together. Layered and glued them under my photo. This photo is of Harry’s (amazing restaurant we ate at in Mexico) This is how you order your steak. Crazy!!!20190103_151907

There is minimal embellishing because I didn’t want to detract from the paint. I decided the best thing would be color blocking with the embellishments. The embellishments that I chose were some puffy stickers from Paper House Production and stickers from Pink Paislee’s Summer lights.

Everything Connects

Hello all,

I love playing in my art journal so when this months theme was to use a cut file along with the  inspiration piece I knew I would have fun.

42087766_872285741898_879243212093390848_n

I don’t have a machine that cuts file but I do receive one each month as a part of the kit I received from The Wild Hare Kits so I grabbed my October file and set to work.

My first thoughts when I saw the file was science and green!! I then looked at the inspiration piece to see how I could make it work. I was pleased to see reds, oranges and yellows, which I knew would be good contrasting colours for green.

I started by added modeling paste through a stencil that would complemented the cut file I planned to use. Then using a number of sprays and gelatos in red, orange and yellow to created the background colour.

I then used the cut file as a stencil and added more modeling paste through it. However this time I tinted the paste with some green spray, but I felt the green wasn’t vibrant enough so I sprayed directly on top of the modeling pastes which made the green really pop.

ec 2

I also added some of the file it self which keeps the same shape but at the same time create a visual interest.

I finished off by adding some white highlights and shading to my hexagons and adding a simple quote.
