Hello everyone it is Crystal with Pineapple Papers and I am up on the Crafty Maven Getaway with some fun way to use your stash. First I am starting with this “Beautiful” cut file. I believe that it is from COAPA. I think it was a free one on the Facebook group.
I used the Jack and Jill 6×6 paper pad to back the cut file. This is a great way to use your 6×6 paper pads or even your scraps. Which if you are like me you have a ton of.
After that the layout came together pretty fast. I just used a sticker sheet from Echo Park to embellish. To create some dimension I popped some of the sticker up with some foam squares.
To finish off the page I used the sequin mix Gum Drops from Spiegelmom Scraps.
I hope you head over to the YouTube Channel and check out the process.
I love playing in my art journal so when this months theme was to use a cut file along with the inspiration piece I knew I would have fun.
I don’t have a machine that cuts file but I do receive one each month as a part of the kit I received from The Wild Hare Kits so I grabbed my October file and set to work.
My first thoughts when I saw the file was science and green!! I then looked at the inspiration piece to see how I could make it work. I was pleased to see reds, oranges and yellows, which I knew would be good contrasting colours for green.
I started by added modeling paste through a stencil that would complemented the cut file I planned to use. Then using a number of sprays and gelatos in red, orange and yellow to created the background colour.
I then used the cut file as a stencil and added more modeling paste through it. However this time I tinted the paste with some green spray, but I felt the green wasn’t vibrant enough so I sprayed directly on top of the modeling pastes which made the green really pop.
I also added some of the file it self which keeps the same shape but at the same time create a visual interest.
I finished off by adding some white highlights and shading to my hexagons and adding a simple quote.
Aloha Scrappers!! Today is a fun day, aside from being Friday. Yay weekend is almost here!! This weekend is going to be jammed packed with fun filled activities because Saturday is National Scrapbooking Day. Let me tell you I am super excited about scrapbooking all weekend!!
Today for Art Party Friday I made a layout with a cut file that I got as part of my subscription to Clique Kits. I used my watercolors to color the cut file to match the net in my picture. I didn’t use gesso on the card stock , because I didn’t want to wrap the cut file too much. I tried to be careful and not over water my paper. With some glossy accents and a book resting on the layout for ten minutes the cut file adhered really well.
I also added modeling paste with a 3×4 Amy Tangerine striped stencil over the hearts on the cut file. It adds a really fun detail on the layout without being really busy.
I added up adding my journaling in the open space of the cut file. which adds a fun and laid back feel to this already fun layout.
I will say I completely forget about incorporating the inspiration piece this week. But you know I am ok with that. This photo really inspired me. I have been taking Lens of Joy by Ali Edwards, which has been helping me think about the perspective and things I want my photos to say. I was trying to take a really fun shot of the kids playing in this bouncy house at my Husband’s Ohana (family) day at work.
The kids were having a blast running races in the bouncy house. Their faces are filled with laughter, and I love the look through the net of the bouncy house. I was definitely was not going to get in the bouncy house to get pictures so having fun with my shots of them was key!!
I kept my layers simple and mostly black and whites. I really wanted the cut file to and photo to stand out.
I also color coordinated the clusters with the cut file. I really helps the colors pop more.
In the end I really just love how fun this layout feels. Perfect for Art Party Friday!!

Aloha!! This week is flying by, and I won’t lie I feel so unfocused!! But thank goodness it’s Spring Break, so I suppose a little slacking is required right?!!
Today I am up on The Crafty Maven Getaway. I love when I can just do my own thing, scrapping my style! Let’s face it I love to create my own backgrounds. I love to just play on white card stock and make it beautiful. I find using acrylic paints my favorite way to do transform a background.
Today I used the colors from the mood board to pick out paint that matched. I used my fave blue paint (Studio Calico color theory DeJu Vu acrylic paint), copper (Martha Stewart acrylic paint), and then mixed orange and pink together to make a coral color. I then just painted blocks of color throughout my page. It’s that simple.
I knew I wanted to cut a cut file, my newest obsession, on top of the painted area. I picked a cut file that made me think of the pattern on the inspiration piece. I love that almost chevron looking pattern. ( I got my cut file from The Cut Shoppe, you can follow the link to Ashley Horton’s Etsy shop to see what cool files she has.)
I really had fun with patterned paper that matched the inspiration piece, corals and blues. I made pretty big layers, but since I only have one photo I am not worried about space as much.
To counter balance this I tried to keep my clusters of embellishments on the layers. keeping it all one space helps the layout not look so busy.
I tucked in embellishments that had texture and colors that matched the colors I was already using. This helps keep the layout looking cohesive because I am mixing different companies products together.
I love all the texture from this cluster!!
I made my title fairly small because I really wanted it to fit above the photo within the layers. I didn’t want to cover up the cut file at the top. I really was trying to not go crazy all over the layout. It was really hard. Sometimes we just have to go crazy and let go!
Aloha!! I really have been enjoying Throwback to Two Peas week!! The Design Team has done a fabulous job!! The layouts are so inspiring!
Today on Scraplift Saturday we have two amazing videos!!
TinaGale has been inspired by Paige Evans. This layout is made by Paige Evans and inspired TinaGale.
“I decided to lift a fabulous layout by Paige Evans for the Scrap Your Stash series at 2Peas. Instead of paper backing she used ribbon. I definitely have plenty of ribbon in my stash that needed to be used up. The long bold title was perfect for this one simple photo of my son taking a rare nap after wearing himself out playing. Notice the bowl on his head? LOL” -TinaGale
Here is TinaGale’s layout. I love all the details she added and layered to the sides of her photos. This layout is just really fun!!
You can watch her process video right here below.
You can also see more videos on her personal Youtube Channel or check out here blog where she is sharing the things she is working on !!
Also on The Crafty Maven Getaway is one of our new Design Team Members ColieBing. I love Nicole’s style, she often has multiple photos on her layouts too.
I have been using her Month in Review videos to get inspiration to do my own MIR layouts for 2014. I am using My Mind’s Eye papers for all of my 2014 MIR layouts and trying to make a little dent in those papers I have been hoarding!” -Nicole (ColieBing)
Here is Nicole’s layout.
I love the buttons on this layout. And that tile is so cool!!
Good Morning my scrappy friends!! It’s a beautiful sunny day today in paradise which is nice compared to downpours and flooding from yesterday. It was so bad yesterday I even started thinking of a escape plan for my scrappy supplies. In case of an emergency how fast can I move all my scrappy goodness upstairs in the school room, was on my mind. Thanks goodness it didn’t come to that, but in all honesty we should be prepared for a natural disaster. Do you have all your photos backed up, on an external hard drive, cloud (or other internet based storage) or just on your trusty computer? I have lost many dear photos and video clips (before my scrapping days) due to not properly storage my precious family photos. If you haven’t done this I would advise you think about how you want to store them and do it, twice!!
On to fun and inspiring things though!! All this talk needs me feeling like I need an inspiration pick me up! Today Both Mari and Scraps by Jen have taken a sketch and used it to inspire them at their scrap desk!!
They both did an amazing job!! This week’s inspirations pieces are very colorful and these two ladies really embraced that on their layouts today.
Here is a look at Mari’s layout!
The colors painted on the cardstock are gorgeous!! I love the way it peeks through the cut files under the photos. The black and white photos really help bring out the colors Mari used. And with the pops of gold really finish off the layout. You can watch her process video on The Crafty Maven Getaway Channel here.
Jen used a cut file in a completely different way then Mari, but just as effective! She used different color papers behind the cut words! Inspired by a quote posted in watercolor from Amy Tan on her pinterest account, I had used this quote on an inspiration Tic Tac Toe board for the Victoria Marie Facebook Group. This quote is the perfect title for Jen’s layout!! I love how the color from behind the title brings out the colors in Jen’s photos, the flowers and stream with trees. This layout is an inspiration feast!! You can check out the process video here. You can also see more process videos on Jen’s Youtube Channel (Scraps By Jen). Here is a look at Jen’s layout!
I hope you are inspired today and Don’t be afraid to use color!! Come back tomorrow for an Art Party Friday page by Maggie Mylow!!
