Everything Connects

Hello all,

I love playing in my art journal so when this months theme was to use a cut file along with the  inspiration piece I knew I would have fun.

I don’t have a machine that cuts file but I do receive one each month as a part of the kit I received from The Wild Hare Kits so I grabbed my October file and set to work.

My first thoughts when I saw the file was science and green!! I then looked at the inspiration piece to see how I could make it work. I was pleased to see reds, oranges and yellows, which I knew would be good contrasting colours for green.

I started by added modeling paste through a stencil that would complemented the cut file I planned to use. Then using a number of sprays and gelatos in red, orange and yellow to created the background colour.

I then used the cut file as a stencil and added more modeling paste through it. However this time I tinted the paste with some green spray, but I felt the green wasn’t vibrant enough so I sprayed directly on top of the modeling pastes which made the green really pop.

I also added some of the file it self which keeps the same shape but at the same time create a visual interest.

I finished off by adding some white highlights and shading to my hexagons and adding a simple quote.

Hello Lovelies,

this months inspiration piece made me think of my husband as one of the images on the rights looks like waves and my hubby works on the water.

This was perfect as I had just found a selfie of him on his phone and when he told me the story behind it I knew I wanted to document it.

I dived into my stash and found a nice diagonal stripped papers that had all the colours of the inspiration piece. I also grabbed the wood grain paper as it was a nice natural yet could be seen as a more masculine paper.

I wanted the layout to have a comical feel to it, with speech bubble and solid pops of black. I think with the ephemera separated (not clustered) this helps with that feel as well.

I also used a bright green zigzag paper behind to photo to extenuate this vibe. You can see this better in the process video.

Most of the ephemera is from the pink Fresh Studio “Case of The Blahs” collection including the big black Oops title, which brings the whole page altogether.
