Art Party (Crystal Barrett)

Hello everyone it is Crystal with Pineapple Papers. Today I am up on the Crafty Maven Getaway Channel. I am playing with some Shimmerz. I did not gesso my page. I use 110 pound white cardstock that I get from Joanns and it takes mild mixed media well. I would not put a ton of water on it without gesso though. These are the colors that I am working with.

My plan is to make a Christmas tree. Honestly I am not very good but I do like how it turned out in the end. I added the gold to act as the ribbon that is on our real tree.

I thought it would be fun to decorate my painted tree with some sequins. These are the ones I chose. They both should still be available.

And I love how it turned out.

I have learned that when you do a focal point like this tree on your layout that it needs only minimal embellishing!

Art Party: Dance Friends (by Jenn- KaezMum)

Hello, Jenn here with an Art Party layout for you!!!  I was so inspired by July’s inspiration piece that I just needed to get one last layout in before we move on to August’s beautiful inspiration piece.  The black and white, the gorgeous music sheets (I see it as text!), and of course that elegant ballerina.  I just love it!!!

66595767_917924950558_3236258652104949760_o

I started by trying to recreate the feeling of the top left image.  I used black Dylusions paint, and some Artist’s Loft white titanium paint on a piece of white cardstock to create some painty streaks across the paper.  I just added a few dollops of of each paint on the left hand side of the paper and used a pallet knife to swipe the paint across the page.  It’s bold, and I will admit, I was a little worried seeing all that black, but it was also a lot of fun!!!

While my paint dried I worked on some layers of 6×6 papers to create a nice cluster of patterned papers behind my photos.  I chose grey and white papers which I thought would help lighten the bold background, but also maintain the neutral feel of the layout that comes from the inspiration piece.  My three little photos are of my daughter and some dance friends in her ballet class.  They aren’t the best quality but the black and white background really helps to make the colours of the photos pop and hides the fact that they are a little dark.  I also pick black and white embellishments and thickers for my title so that the only colour on the layout comes from the photos, and that really makes them stand out even more.

To finish the layout, I added some extra white stripes and splatters to the background, then used foam tape to pop up the photo cluster in the center of the background.  I added some black and white sequins as a final touch, and voila!  All done 🙂  I really love how this layout turned out and I had a lot of fun taking the risk of getting messy with some black and white paint.  If you’d like to see how this layout came together check out my process video HERE!!!  Thank you so much for stopping by, and until next time, Happy Scrapping 🙂

Art Party (Crystal Barrett)

Hello it is Crystal with Pineapple Papers. Hope you all had a wonderful long weekend full of relaxing scrappy time. I got the relaxing time with scrappy friends. I am up on the YouTube Channel today using some of my favorite Shimmerz. Moulin Rouge, Orange Sherbet, Limoncello, Jilted Jade, and Tickle Me Turquoise. I did dry brush strokes with splatters in the same colors.

cmg 5-1

I also had some fun using my fringe scissors. For once I didn’t want to add more paper so I just backed my photo with some white tissue paper. I chose color blocking with my embellishments. This is a great way to get some of those random embellishments on a page.

Art Party: Canvas (Crystal Barrett)

Hello! It’s Crystal with Pineapple Papers and I am up today on the Crafty Maven Getaway YouTube Channel with something a little bit different. I have been cleaning and organizing my craft room all week. I ran across this canvas from Crate Paper. I got it on clearance for $2.99 at Ross of all places. It has been sitting in my stash for probably a year. It was time to either make it or pass it on.

cmg5

So I am going to play with it today. The letters are gold and designed to resist any media. It says watercolor but I am going to use distress oxide instead. I am using the packaging technique with colors: Abandoned Coral and Peacock Feathers. I did use my heat gun to dry in between colors.cmg9.jpg

I topped it off with some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold. Once everything was dry I added sprinkles of water to let the oxide do its thing!

I finished the canvas off with just some left over bits and bobs hanging out on my desk. I really love how it turned out. It will be a great addition to my crafty space.

Head over to the Facebook group and YouTube Channel for more inspiration.

You Are Enough – Art Journal Page

Hello fellow Crafty Mavens,

You can watch the full process video of this page coming together here

I had so much fun with this months inspiration piece. I totally love the purple, red and blue tones!! I also manged to included some yellow and stamped/drew some circular elements too.

CMG Feb

To start with I took my Distress Oxide inks and smooshed three colours onto my pre- gessoed page. I didn’t want the whole page covered in colour so I love how the wrinkles in the paper prevented the ink colouring the page where the dips occurred.

yar1

Once I had my background sorted I flipped through a Daphne’s Diary magazine to find a page with colours I thought would work well as leaves/branches. I grabbed a die from my stash and cut a whole stack out. I wanted these to represent leaf litter on a forest floor.

yae2

I think I cut the girls from a old Frankie magazine sometime ago and had them in my stash just waiting for the right page to come along. I placed the figures on the leaves holding hands as if standing strong together.

I finished with lots of outlining, shading and white highlights to add details.

Good To be Unique – Art party

Hello one and all,

I do enjoy playing in my art journal for my Crafty Maven Getaway posts. I always find something in the inspiration piece to get me going.

you can watch the process video here

This moth it was the colours, the paint swatches and the painting that looked like confetti .fb_img_1545573489684

I started off by add the soft yellows, greens and pinks layers to the back ground using Gelatos.

During this stage I noticed a shape that looked like a tree truck, so I went with it. I used torn strips of paper as they reminded me of the paint swatches.

Once I relised there was going to be a tree on the page I knew the leaves would be small hearts made to look like confetti.

All in all I love how this page turned out.

Journey

Hello Friends!  Happy New Year!  I can’t believe it is 2019, it feels like 2018 just started!  Well anyways, I thought I would I start out the new year with little Art Party in my Coffee Travelers Notebook.  Truly using little inks and splatters still give you that achievement of making it an Art Party.

I started out with my Hannah Collection from Felcity Jane.  This collection really called to me when I first saw it.  A lot of the elements in there along with how this spread came together was because of my personality!  I decided that my title was gonna be this element called Journey.  Your life is always journey, it truly has its ups and downs; you have learn and grow from your experiences each and every day!

I took Close To My Heart Stamp Set called Letter Board and started to ink it with Pewter Ink Pad.  I had to ink and stamp this good couple of times on my TN because of how thick it is.  Truly I didn’t mind the Distress looked it left because I knew it would be covered with elements from the Hanna Collection.

20190106_122732-01

While I was finding the little elements bits to put on the Big Letter Board, I started working on my mixed media.  Again, you don’t have to have much to have an Art Party.  I used two different types of splatters; Vibez, Quit Yer Wine-n and Spritz, Walkin’aTight Heliostrope and just splattered away.  I wanted to finish my mixed media out with some stamping with the stamp set from Hannah.  The two colors that worked beautifully with this spread is Distress Oxide, Stormy Sky and Victorian Velvet!  I used these two to place down different types of sayings from the stamp set.

This journey I am about to embrace in 2019, is only the beginning and I hope it will be  great one for your too.  Check out the final layout and click on the video for pull process video.

Art Party: Awesome Choice (Crystal Barrett)

Hello I have a super fun and fast layout for you today. It is time to get messy, ok not really I used a pallet knife.  I used the inspiration piece with 2 of the pictures.

fb_img_1545573489684

The Paint stripes were the first thing. I did Paint stripes on this Mexico 8 1/2 x 11 layout. I am a big fan of Art Anthrology’s paints. I used 4 colors: Patina Seafoam Stone Effects, Patina Teal Velvet, Metal Effects Gold, Sorbet Coral. They provided not only color but different textures and bling to the page. To add an additional element I splattered the following mists: Tattered Angels Frozen lake, Heidi Swapp (gold, patina and salmon).

I am using white cardstock from Joanns and it is so thick. It doesn’t buckle. I will warn you that if you are using this cardstock to cut cutfiles on a cricut that you need to put it on the poster board setting.

The next thing that I pulled from the inspiration piece is the section that looks like folded paper. I use 4 pieces of paper. I folded them in half and stapled ends together. Layered and glued them under my photo. This photo is of Harry’s (amazing restaurant we ate at in Mexico) This is how you order your steak. Crazy!!!20190103_151907

There is minimal embellishing because I didn’t want to detract from the paint. I decided the best thing would be color blocking with the embellishments. The embellishments that I chose were some puffy stickers from Paper House Production and stickers from Pink Paislee’s Summer lights.

Everything Connects

Hello all,

I love playing in my art journal so when this months theme was to use a cut file along with the  inspiration piece I knew I would have fun.

42087766_872285741898_879243212093390848_n

I don’t have a machine that cuts file but I do receive one each month as a part of the kit I received from The Wild Hare Kits so I grabbed my October file and set to work.

My first thoughts when I saw the file was science and green!! I then looked at the inspiration piece to see how I could make it work. I was pleased to see reds, oranges and yellows, which I knew would be good contrasting colours for green.

I started by added modeling paste through a stencil that would complemented the cut file I planned to use. Then using a number of sprays and gelatos in red, orange and yellow to created the background colour.

ec 5

I then used the cut file as a stencil and added more modeling paste through it. However this time I tinted the paste with some green spray, but I felt the green wasn’t vibrant enough so I sprayed directly on top of the modeling pastes which made the green really pop.

ec 2

I also added some of the file it self which keeps the same shape but at the same time create a visual interest.

ec 1

I finished off by adding some white highlights and shading to my hexagons and adding a simple quote.
